Three little letters; a word anyone with kids learns to dread once it starts being used thousands of times a day. But, at Dancing Squirrel, it’s a word we're rather fond of.
In fact, it might be the most important question we ask.
It’s critical to use delivering the very best event we can because the first answer is rarely the whole story.
Picture this. A client tells us they need an event. Fair enough, but why? Usually, they start with needing to bring everyone together. Another ‘why?’ and they admit they’ve gone through a lot of change and people feel disconnected.
Now we're getting somewhere.
Imagine you are considering a customer event. Why? Because you’re launching something important. So why an event rather than a press release or social content? Because you need people to believe in where you’re heading next.
You can see how quickly we move from a potential “let’s just book a venue and some tech” to something that can really add value to your culture or the growth of your brand.
Simply by using this little word, why, we’re now talking about people, confidence, connection, momentum and belief.
What are you really searching for?
Many of us jump straight to solutions because they're easier to see. We convince ourselves we need a bigger meeting room, a larger budget or a more ambitious production setup before we've properly understood what we're actually trying to achieve.
It’s really easy to do this when it comes to events, or even to go the other way and start ordering all the shiny new whizzy stuff that looks great but isn’t really needed (and costs the earth!)
Rather than starting your event planning with a shopping list; venue, some staging, a few screens, lighting, a drinks reception….; try starting with what you want people to think, feel and do once the event is finished.
Those other things all have their place, of course, but once you understand the why, the possibilities become far more exciting.
Maybe you're trying to bring a company strategy to life in a way that people genuinely connect with. Maybe you want customers to experience your brand rather than simply hear about it. Maybe you're trying to celebrate a milestone, launch an idea, build confidence, shift perceptions or create a sense of belonging.
The answer to ‘why?’ changes everything.
Whether it leads to immersive visual environments where the room itself becomes part of the story, invites audience interaction or simply creates a captivating narrative running through the entire experience, it brings purpose.
Don’t get us wrong, every Squirrel in the place loves technology, creativity and the challenge of bringing ideas to life. We’ll all get excited over the latest toy or the sparkliest special effect. But we know the real magic happens when all of those things are connected to a clear purpose.
And that's why we keep coming back to that small but surprisingly powerful question: ‘why?’
